Privacy policy

This policy explains what Mouse Tester Online does with data. It is written to be specific about this site rather than to cover every possibility, so where something does not apply it says so plainly.

The tests themselves collect nothing

Every test on this site runs entirely as JavaScript in your browser. Your clicks, scrolling, cursor movement, click intervals and measured report rate are held in your browser's memory for as long as the page is open, used to draw the results, and then discarded when you close or reload the tab.

None of it is transmitted anywhere. There is no server that receives your test results, no database storing them, and no account attached to them. You can disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded and every test still works, which is the simplest way to verify this for yourself.

The site sets no cookies of its own and uses no local storage for your results.

What is collected, by whom

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical information your browser sends when it requests a page — IP address, browser and operating system, the page requested, and the time. This is used to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse.

Analytics

Google Analytics is used to see which pages people visit and roughly where they arrive from, so effort goes into the tools that actually get used. It sets a cookie and processes an identifier for your browser, along with the technical details any site receives — page, referrer, approximate location, device and browser.

It is never given your test results. Your clicks, movements, click intervals and measured rates stay in your browser, as described above. Google's account of how it handles this data is at policies.google.com/privacy .

Advertising

No advertising runs on this site yet. No ad network is loaded and no advertising cookie is set. Display advertising is intended later, because that is what would fund the site — and this page will name it before it appears, describing what it sets and how to opt out, with the date at the top updated.

Publishing the usual advertising-cookie paragraph in advance would be easier, but describing tracking that is not happening is not an accurate privacy policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are asked for consent before the analytics cookie is set, and can change or withdraw that choice at any time. The same will apply to advertising when it is introduced.

Your rights, wherever you are

This site is used worldwide and does not restrict access by country. Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, to receive a copy, and to withdraw consent. Specifically:

• EEA, UK and Switzerland (GDPR / UK GDPR). The lawful bases used are consent for advertising and analytics cookies, and legitimate interest in serving and securing the site. You may also complain to your national supervisory authority.
• California (CCPA/CPRA). Personal information is not sold, and it is not shared for cross-context behavioural advertising where you have opted out. You have the right to know, to delete, to correct, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
• India (DPDP Act 2023). You may request access to and correction or erasure of your personal data, and may withdraw consent.
• Everywhere else. The same requests are honoured regardless of where you live. Requests are not refused on the basis of your country.

To exercise any of these, write to hello@mousetesteronline.com. In practice most requests concern the analytics described above, since the tests themselves store nothing — those are forwarded to Google, where that data sits.

Children

This site is a hardware diagnostic and is not directed at children. No age information is collected, and nothing here is designed to appeal to children specifically.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
